    Title- The Little Turtle

    There was a little turtle.
    He lived in a box.
    He swam in a puddle.
    He climbed on the rocks.

    He snapped at a mosquito.
    He snapped at a flea.
    He snapped at a minnow.
    And he snapped at me.

    He caught the mosquito.
    He caught the flea.
    He caught the minnow.
    But he didn’t catch me.

    May-Baskets
    By: Evaleen Stein

Let us take our baskets early
    To the meadows green,
While the wild-flowers still are pearly
    With the dewdrops' sheen.
Fill them full of blossoms rosy,
    Violets and gay
    Cowslips, every pretty posy
    Welcoming the May.
Then our lovely loads we'll carry
    Down the village street,
On each door, with laughter merry,
    Hang a basket sweet.

    Hey-a-day-day! It is spring now,
    Lazy folks, awake!
See the pretty things we bring now
    For the May-day's sake!

  4. School is Out
    By: Lenore Hetrick

    I'm practical- that's what I am!
And I know why I like the month of May.
I like it lots, for that is the month
We celebrate our last school day.
Let the others have all the fits and spells
About the beauties of the seasons,
But I like May 'cause school is out-
And I'm not ashamed to tell my reason!

    M-A-Y spells May
    M-A-Y spells May
The 5th month of the year
    M-A-Y spells May.

    Kids go out and play
All through the month of May
    31 days of sunny fun
And then the month is done!

  6. When School Is Closing Soon
    By Janiel Wagstaff

    When school is closing soon,
    my heart gets excited!
But I'll miss my friends and teacher
    so my feelings are divided.
I think of all I've learned,
    like math, writing, and reading.
    I'm proud of my accomplishments
    and how I've been succeeding!
So, here's to summer months of fun
and to the next year, too!
I'll always remember this school year
    and how much I grew!

  7. “In Summer” by Liana Mahoney
    Pour on lotion,
    Rub it in.
    Perfect for
    My summer skin.

    On my bike
    Or in the pool,
    A sip of water
    Keeps me cool.

    Shades are on,
    Flip-flops, too.
    In summer there’s
    So much to do!

  8. Last Day
    By: Amy Ludwig VanDerwater

    I’m a little bit excited.
    I’m a little bit sad.
    I’m a little bit nervous.
    I’m a little bit glad.
    I’m a little bit older.
It’s the end of the year.
    I’ll miss this class.
    I’m glad I was here.
