    August
    Author- Candace Quester
    Title- Back to School
Summer is over, fall is here.
Back to school for a brand new year!
Pack your things, on the bus you go.
Make new friends and say hello!
    Reading, writing, learning more.
    Than you ever did before!
    Adding numbers...1,2,3.
So much to do, and learn, and see!
I’m so glad to meet everyone,
Get ready for a year of fun!

    Almost Time for School!
    By: Lenoe Hetrick

“Soon I must go to school,” said the child.
Up spoke an animal of the wild:
    “Soon I must scurry underground
Where all the winter I can be found.”
I’m off to the South,” said a tiny bird,
And not again was her sweet song heard.
“Why did they go?” Is your demand.
Because Queen August has lifted her hand.

  5. School
    By Winifred C. Marshall

    School bells are ringing, loud and clear;
    Vacation’s over, school is here.
We hunt our pencils and our books,
And say goodbye to fields and brooks,
To carefree days of sunny hours,
To birds and butterflies and flowers.
But we are glad school has begun.
For work is always mixed with fun.
When autumn comes and the weather is cool,
Nothing can take the place of school.

  6. Back to School!
    By: Sara Holbrook

    I've rewatched every rerun.
I have no skin on my knees.
I've had it with the crickets,
    the sunburn, and the bees.

    I hiked around the woods
and got peed on by a tree toad.
    My neighbor took me fishing.
    I got gang-jumped by mosquitoes.

I've been bitten, scorched, and stung,
and the ball field is a sneeze.
My controller went on strike, and
    I'm bouncing off the trees.
    Days, no longer long,
    whisper, Time to move along.
School is calling, no use stalling.
    Fall is falling, and it
    cannont be ignored.
    Should I follow?
    Might as well.
    I'm pretty bored.

    A New School Year
    by Robin Zelaya

New shoes, backpacks, pencils and glue,
These things we need before school.

    Books, papers, rulers and scissors,
These things we need in class.

Ready minds, hands high, ideas and smiles,
These things we need to learn.

Lessons, materials, kind hearts and words,
These things we need from our teachers.

All for a Great School Year!!

  9. Welcome Back to School” by Kenn Nesbitt

“Dear students, the summer has ended.
The school year at last has begun.
But this year is totally different.
I promise we’ll only have fun.

    We won’t study any mathematics,
And recess will last all day long.
Instead of the Pledge of Allegiance,
We’ll belt out a rock ‘n’ roll song.

We’ll only play games in the classroom.
You’re welcome to bring in your toys.
It’s okay to run in the hallways.
It’s great if you make lots of noise.

For homework, you’ll play your Nintendo.
You’ll have to watch lots of TV.
For field trips we’ll go to the movies
And get lots of candy for free.

The lunchroom will only serve chocolate
    And triple-fudge sundaes supreme.”
Yes, that’s what I heard from my teacher
Before I woke up from my dream.

    The First Day of School
    By: Ruth Donnely

    I've got a brand-new lunchbox.
    My shoes are shiny clean.
I've got a cool, new bookbag.
    And a pencilbox that's green.

But I don't know my teacher,
Or where my desk will be.
I don't know if I'll like the kids,
Or if they'll play with me.

    I peak inside my classroom.
I stand there for a while.
My teacher's tall and kind of loud,
But has a great big smile.

And, best of all, she's got
My favorite book upon the shelf!
I kiss my mother at the door
    And walk in by myself.
